    Wax recommendations

With the coming of spring my "kids" and I plan on waxing our truck. Looking for a good wax to use not concerned about price, only quality. Going to use an electric buffer along with appropriate towels jeep.jpg .

Over the years I have spent a lot of time waxing my vehicles. Some were easy to apply and buff off, and others were not so easy to apply and hard to buff off. In that time I have used none that lasted for very long, especially if you keep your vehicle clean.
Chemical Guys has a line of car care products and I found that their "Blazin Banana" spray wax is easy to apply, easy to buff off, and lasts about as long as any of them. And, it's available at our local Walmart.

With the invent of clear coat which has been around since the 80's, buffing is generally not needed. The object now is to protect your paint while it is showroom new (or so). With that in mind I recommend many of the ceramic sprays that are out and available most everywhere.

Ceramic sprays are easy to use and don't streak. Spray on and wipe off while still wet. I used to use Rain-x on my windshield cause water will bead up and you can drive in a rain shower and not have to use your wipers (not recommended of course). However, I found that the Rain-x was causing some water spotting so I stopped using it.

Anyway, back to the ceramic stuff. There are You-Tube videos showing which ones work the best and the cost comparison. The video I saw about 3 years ago stated Meguiar's was one of the best and not the most expensive. I use it about once every 10-12 months with just washing done in between. Water still beads off. My cars live under a carport though protected from most of the harsh sun.

The test on You-tube was done using several car hoods placed in the open where they got direct sun/heat, winter punishment and rain. Some sprays held up for 1 year or close to it. Since my cars stay a little protected I figured this was a good protectant and has been.

Watch the video's. There are many good brands. Some cost about double as others. I chose the Megular's because it did well on the test, runs about $20 per bottle and is available at WM.

The paint on my 2004 Mercury Marquis still looks new.

      Works for me.

PS. That ceramic spray also protects your headlight and tail light lenses from the elements. Replacement factory lenses are quite expensive so you want to keep what you have looking nice. Aftermarket lenses can be bought for about 1/10th as much but generally don't work or hold up near as well.

My headlights are a $2400 extra when ordered from the factory and are fantastic. @Walmart, I get 10% off with my card, so I will get my items there if possible. The addition of a bug deflector will keep my windshield cleaner.

Another thing about the ceramic stuff. Traditional car wax can leave a chalky white substance in seams and crevices. It is usually hard to remove the residue from rubber parts too. You don't have that with the ceramic sprays.

Newer auto paints don't oxidize being protected under the clear so buffing isn't required unless the clear coat is in really bad shape.

Don't forget what Mr. Miyagi said, "Wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off, breathe in, breathe out, wax on, wax off..........
            Bari important!"
