    727

Anyone need a well used Boeing 727?

This is an auction site I buy through locally. No planes though.

Wouldn't your wife love to see this sitting in the back yard?

Since it doesn't fly someone has a lot of work ahead of them.

21 grand in bids so far? You know Fred-X retired it for a reason - like it was flat worn out! The turbines and avionics can't be worth more than scrap metal prices. But the high bidder apparently has a plan. SW

Yep. I took a class (repair) on this model plane at Mobile Aerospace (Mobile, AL) back in the early 90's. Still have my old manuals somewhere. The 727's were being replaced by the DC9 variants and the 737. Eastern Airlines had gone out of business shortly before hand and their 727's along with others were being sent to Mobile to be converted to cargo planes and painted with the FedEx logo's.

Agree with whoever is buying this plane is doing so for the engines, which are obviously due for overhaul. There can't be much demand for them as they are mostly obsolete (Pratt and WhitneyJT-8) however, they do fit the DC-9's and possibly other makes. They are tiny as far as jet engines go. Back in their day the 727's were well liked and fit the bill for trans-Atlantic flights requiring more than 2 engines (back then). Hence the 3 engines on these and the DC-10's. This is the model with the aft stairs.

I guess the fuselage could be used to live in or used as a tourist trap/yard ornament but the work and expense to take it apart and move it will be outrageous. Summer is coming up too and this thing sits on an open run way. The working conditions will be very hot.

Not for me. I showed this auction to my wife---she wasn't too impressed to say the least.

If you want to pay a lot more for a lot less there's this. It does fly but is 25 years old. That, along with having basically a VW bug piston eng and bringing $190K to date makes you wonder what in the world a new one cost.

2001 Cessna 182T Skylane in case the listing disappears.

rection: This is a 6 cylinder, not a 4, making it more like a Chev Corvair instead of a VW.
