Local kids are doing well with $ in grad cards - contributed to a few of those myself!
In my case, I wanted a '48 Diamond T pickup a neighbor down the road had - wanted $50 for it. Started and seemed to drive okay - he said he was selling it because of broken leaf springs. Probably from chasing his cattle at high speed over rough pastures.
I told Dad about it, and he strongly discouraged the deal, saying parts would be nearly impossible to find. Which they would have been. I'd already announced my intention to enlist, so he said if I could hold out, neighbor guy would probably park it in a tree row anyway, and I could get it when I came home.
Didn't work out - neighbor guy passed away, and his kids cleaned the place out. It's fun to think about, though - those are neat old rides.
I'd left most of my pay on the books while in Viet Nam which I squandered on a '66 Vette roadster when I got out. Also a neat ride! SW
