    M1917 Pommel Markings

I am seeking information as to the meaning of "F M R" stamped over "2 7 4" on the pommel of my Remington M1917 bayonet. All of the expected blade markings are present. This bayonet does not have a "clean out" hole on the pommel.

    Thanks.

Just as a guess, it might be the unit designation and unit serial number for the Fusiliers Mont-Royal, a Canadian regiment. Many Model 1917 rifles and bayonets went to Canada in WW2, and they often unit marked the bayonets. Just a guess, not a fact.
