    Pocket knife question

I am not a collector but a pocket knife user. I carry a 3 1/2", 4 blade Congress made by Case at all times. I enjoy the Congress style of pocket knife and have several quality versions. My question is, how does the name "Congress " get designated/equate to the shape of that style knife?

Here's a little info on the origin of the name-

Not these days. There is a very distinctive pocket knife pattern known as the 'congress pattern'. It has been around since the mid-1800s. ...

Abe Lincoln had a Congress pattern pocket knife in his pocket the night he was shot.

Thanks JBinIll for that information. It is just what I wanted to know. The CASE knife shown on page 3 is the exact pocket knife I carry every day so the info could not have been more appropriate.
