jeremy69-Nice! Nice! Nice! I have yet to get my hands on a dated Utica. You have an excellent example plus a great M6. Don't worry about the belt hook being removed, very common. Thanks for showing! SKIP

I'm with Kurtflys. Any dated is great! A Utica in that condition is about as rare as you can get. I have a dated, Imperial, Case, and RCC. All used, but not abused. It took me about 3 years to get a dealer friend to come down on the RCC to a point I could afford. SKIP

jeremy69-Handle and scabbard are legit. Scabbard is a rarer version. You have a great knife. SKIP

The cutt off top was a common field modiifcation so you could strap the knife to your ankle or calf. Rumor has it that it indicates paratrooper use. I have had one cut the same way and value it less then uncut but still think it is worth a lot more then an M8 scabbard.

DRB is correct about the modification. If you ever tried to carry a knife or bayonet w/ belt hooks strapped to your leg you'd see why. The hook snags on every stick, small branch or brush your leg gets near. Very aggravating. I don't blame the guys for cutting them off. SKIP

I carried a "bent blade" Gerber through two tours in Viet Nam[that knife wasn't made during my first tour].Those tours I were as an aviator but I spent enough time on the ground[not always by choice!] to know that the belt bail was a problem. Fortunately a new invention allowed a fix without removing the bail. It was called" hundred mile an hour green tape".I still have that Gerber and will never part with it.I know little about collecting knives but I would love to find a nice dated 1943 M-3 in a leather sheath to go with my all 1943 1911A1 collection.[I was born in '43]BTW, my first tour was on the ground and I used a carbine bayo with the barrel band ground down.I was med evaced out an my knife didn't come home with me. Interestingly enough,my Colt Python did! Go figure. Nick

If ur still looking for a dated m3 I have a dated 1943 utica paratrooper knife with original m6 leather shealth I am selling it was my great uncles from when he was in ww2. If im going to sell it I would prefer it to go to a veteran that would appreciate its sentimental value as much as I do.
