Are they crazy? M4 bayo question

I put an M1 carbine bayonet on ebay expecting to atleast get about $50 out of it. Doesn't seem too fancy, I can't make out a manufacturer and standard M4 in M8A1 scabbard. The thing went up to $80 already with 4 days left.

    Does that seem reasonable?

Listing with pics, it is nice, but I just didn't see anything special about it and I don't collect U.S. stuff.

Could you post a close up of the markings? I have never seen that mark before.

What you have is a Norwegian M4 bayonet. The funny mark on the crossguard under the USM4 is a crown over the script letter K. It is the mark of the Kongsberg Arsenal in Norway. I cannot tell from your photo if it is in the correct scabbard but I'm guessing it is in a standard USM8A1. The correct scabbard would have the same crowned K proof mark. CMP had a number of these that they were selling at the same time as the Greek M4s. They had them priced way below what I would consider to be market value but they did not have scabbards. They were around for a few months in number but they have started to dry up. Having the correct scabbard would probably double the value of the piece to a collector. Here's a link to a write up I did on these a few years ago: http://usmilitaryknives.com/porters_page_9.htm

Porterkids, Thanks. I had a feeling this was a foreign bayonet but couldn't make out the mark and I don't mess with U.S. stuff much. I stay away from it mostly because I can hardly tell the difference between a $40 bayonet and a $150 bayonet. I had assumed I would get $50 or less for this one.

Glad to see that things are working out better than you expected. I'm thinking that the final price could be a good bit higher that what you have with three days to go. Time will tell. Look at it this way, it only takes two bidding at auction who are looking for something they really want to fill their own collection to drive the price up.
As far as crazy goes this hardly bumps the meter so far.

US M4 bayos are over a hundred bucks (asking) now. I do not know about the Norwegian ( Danish??) ones but maybe a novice thinks it is a US bayo?

You could pay US$200 plus for the same bayonet here. The M4 is my favourite bayonet in all its variations. Let us know how your auction ends. Good luck.

Believe me, I am not complaining. Just wanting to know if I missed something. And since it was at $80 in the first day, yes, I think it could still go up. Although, I have seen items jump up the first day then not go up a penny in the end. Ebay is an unpredictable market at best.

Barryeye, are there any M4 bayos in particular you can't find? I could look around at Tulsa next month. There will be a few thousand of them for sell there.

I think the key is the leather handle; for some reason original US M4 bayonets with the plastic grips (Conetta, TMN, Brendan) just don't get the prices any of the leather handled M4s bring, even the foreign made ones. Don't be surprised if the final price is in the $100-110 range.

Thorin, I was thinking about that too. The leather is pretty darn good on this one. Still at $81 so I don't expect it to go over $90-$100 but it's ebay, so who knows.

It went for $103 plus I think $3 shipping.
