    A request for SRS check

I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to check on Model 1898 serial number 169,522. Thanks so much for any help!

    You are a lucky man:

    169,522 98R 1899 CO K 32ND USV INF

You might want to see if more information is available from SRS.

Will do thank you! While it is not in the best of shape it has managed to avoid the hacksaw for the last 118 years!

I never heard of that unit, but here's what I found:

32nd United States Volunteer Infantry Association, 1899-1901, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas - Kansas Memory

        and

The unit was formed at Ft. Leavenworth and was only in existence a couple of years. Your rifle was probably issued when the 32nd was formed in Sept. 1899, and most likely went to the Philippines with that unit by November 1899. The 32nd was disbanded in 1901 and most likely your rifle was arsenal refurbed at that time. I bet it has a 1901 rear sight.

Good luck with it. They like to be shot providing you have ammo.

I had to check to be sure, but it has the 1902 rear sight. I have had it for a while and have shot it some, will have to get at it more frequently. Thanks for the information.
