As a child and young man this was a "holiday" to me. The older I get the more it is truly a "memorial" day for me and as the years go by it gets harder and harder when I think about what friends and family have gone through. Life is what it is and I can't change the past but why is it that we grow too soon old and too late smart.
My father and so many like him are not around for me to thank and I never did it when I still could.
When ever I see a WWII vet wearing one of their hats I always engage them in conversation and they never fail to seem grateful.
