    Powder question

    What was used to load the original .30 U.S. Army cartridge? Friend says Cordite; I say no way, probably a flake nitro cellulose.

    Per the 2nd paragraph, you are correct. I'm sure many powders were tested though.

      Not to hijack the thread, but 4895 is a pretty decent modern powder for that round.

          That was my go-to when I was loading 220 gr. RNs for elk hunting. The new barrel on my "carfle" wasn't stabilizing them as well as I would like, plus the 220s are herd to find any more. One reason I went to 4895 and 180 gr. bullets.
