I went to the range today to sight in the hunting rifles. I took along the '98 rifle I bought this summer. hings have been hectic & this is the first time I shot it. All I had was my 220 gr. hunting loads and I was prepared for a keyholing, spread out mess of a group. Here's what I got at 50 yds:

That is a 2" bull. Later I did shoot 5 at 100 yds. but my glasses were fogging up pretty good in the rain and damp. It was a hand-sized group, but no tumblers. But I'm thinking this rifle will shoot jacketed bullets just fine. Not only is the bore peachy, it is probably close to.308".
Actually, this US Krag may be more accurate thaN MY "carbine" with its re-cut Model 70 barrel.
