Thanks for the answer about Krag bolt strength. Now could you tell me the SRS of my 1898 Krag rifle, 165960. And being ignorant, what exactly does SRS stand for. Thanks in advance.

Closest 165951 '98R CO C 33rd USV INF and 165965 '98R CO F 29th USV INF. SRS stands for Springfield Research Service. Serial numbers that may have been recorded in archive listings or other documents that have been found. These four books only account for a very small number of the weapons that were issued. John
