Date on side must be 1898? Likely was a rifle. I do not think any 1898 carbines have been ID'd in that serial range. But you never can tell, you would need to post pictures, there are some on this site who could give a better answer. 5000 were made.

Serials in that range could be either with rifles predominating. A review of the gun would be required.

129885 was a rifle but that means nothing.
