Local shop has a 1898 Springfield. 30 inch barrel, stock is a carbine type. Original or a swap?

One surefire way to tell... Look at the front of the stock and see if the band retention is a band spring or a pin... also, see if it looks like a plug of different grain wood is present directly under the barrel at the front, which indicates a lightening channel being filled."I was home...
