Dick mentioned sometime ago that the only real decent picture of the PC rifles was in National Geographic. So, given work settled down enough for my brain to function, I went digging.

Yep. They are wearing the wanes(h) or breech cloth, as they are Bontoc Igorots. Men there were still wearing them, especially during ceremonial occasions, 53 years later when I lived in Bontoc. The Krags were gone. By then the PC guys were carrying Thompsons and wearing Khakis. They used to patrol riding the buses and getting off at (seemingly) random locations.

Some interesting Philippine Constabulary Photographs are viewable on-line, from the Tiffany Bernard Williams (1893-1986) Collection. (Philippine Photographs Digital Archive, Special Collections Library, University of Michigan).

Tiffany Williams graduated from Kemper Military School (Mo.) in 1914. He was a Commissioned Officer in the Philippine Constabulary, from 1914 to 1917, and served in the Mountain District of North Central Luzon. From 1917 to 1942, he served in various roles with the South China Division, Standard-Vacuum Oil Company, until interned by the Japanese. He served as a Major in the U.S. Army, during WW-2. (His family made a gift of his papers and 268 photographs to the University of Michigan).

In the Collection are images from Kemper Military School, photographs of Philippine Constabulary members in Luzon, and photographs of various tribal groups. (A fair number of Krags and nice uniform details to be seen).
