SRS Check Please

Please check Serial number 416882. Probably nothing on it but just the same. I is now a sporterized rifle with a curious schnable
fore end. The forend has a square cut from the barrel down a little. Was this a ram/cleaning rod channel?

The square cut was part of one of the lightening slots. The under-barrel rod died out at around 24,600.

The cleaning rod for those weapons broke down into 3 pieces and stowed, along with an oiler, under the trapdoor in the buttplate. The rifle stocks had channels cut under the barrel, supposedly for lightening. Or it could have been part of someone's accuracy theory.
