    New Krag SRS Check.

              Thanks Dick. Will reverse that rear site. Question, Never collected the Krag. Why is the front handguard shortened? I have seen them with full front handguard and some cut down.

                I believe that you are speaking of the for end. The hand guard goes on the top of the barrel surrounding the rear sight and your rifle seems to be totally with out a hand guard. The forend was shortened to lighten the rifle and make it handle a bit easier, usually for hunting.

                  One that I bought for parts had a similarly hacked forearm, looked like it might have been done with a bayonet.
