'JBinIll' - Nice detail pictures of the Hart - Krag magazine gate conversion.

Some Sportsmen wanted their Krags 'Flat'. (I prefer the original 'Fat')!

The lunchbox makes the Krag a little difficult to carry, one hand at point of balance, even for someone with big hands. If you use that carry in the field, instead of a sling, the 3-shot conversion makes sense. And 3 rounds is plenty for deer. Thanks for posting!

I have seen two versions of this type of alteration. One as the above with a sheet metal door and one with a heavier solid machined door. I do not remember who made the machined door version or whether I have one somewhere.

jon_norstog, I heard several times in the Wisconsin woods when hunting there: 3 shots live deer, 2 shots maybe, 1 shot dead deer.

If the first misses you will need a lot more then 3 unless you are very good at running, jumping, dodging targets!
