I have a very early Inland carbine in the 16k ser no range. It still has its original hi wood non cartouche stock. Everything appears original and unmolested according to Craig Riecsh 3 rd edition book except for the opererating slide which is marked SG. It is the correct early style and the finish matches the rest of the rifle perfectly. Could this still be correct and original on my rifle? I was thinking of looking for an Inland marked part to put on it but I thought I would check with you guys first. Thanks in advance.

Your carbine would have been made well before SG even thought about making carbines so the slide has been replaced. You would need a type 2 slide. -

How long did Inland use the circled "PI" type 2 slide, e.g., to approx what serial number? And what marking on slides came after that? Anyone know?Comment

They used the circle PI all of 1942 into early 1943. After that it was just a type 2 with PI in it. The type 2 was used up to about the 460,000 range.Comment

Good info on early Inlands, Tuna. What about the non-cartouche Inland stocks? Were only the I cut stocks without the cartouche? Or were early oval cut high woods the same way?Comment

The early I cut stocks that were marked only in the sling well were used for the first 30,000+ Inlands. After that the acceptance stamp was moved to the right side of the stock and it stayed there right to the end of production.Comment

Tuna also forgot to mention that the crossed cannons on those I-cuts were larger than the ones on later Inlands.Comment
