    Later Winchester

Looking at a 5.55 mil Winchester that appears to be all correct. Except--two question marks. It has an adjustable rear Type II sight marked H in a shield and an unmarked Type 2 bbl band. Too early--maybe OK? Would like opinions from the experts. Carbine appears unmolested and has been stored for many years. Has surface rust that will clean up. Thanks

The unmarked type 2 band is correct for your serial number. The adjustable rear sight might be a little bit too early for it but at least it's a correct rear sight for Winchester. It's close time wise for the rear sight so it could be OK.

Is the rear sight milled or stamped.

Johnny, it has the milled construction not the stamped sheet steel.

Your WRA rear sight was made by Hemphill Mfg. Co. of Pawtucket, R.I.
Is there any grey paint on the sight?

That would be the correct adjustable sight for that time frame.

Even after the milled adjustable sight was adopted many Winchesters had the type 1 sight installed when production of the adjustable sight didn't keep pace with the carbine production. You didn't slow or stop production to wait on a shipment of one part. You just started using the left over earlier parts and kept the line moving.
