    M1 Carbine Rear Eschelon Pack

I recall buying a sealed pack dated 1966 (?) which held 4 magazines, an oiler, yellow rifle grease and a cleaning thong. I took pictures and .... opened it. I think I paid $100 on Ebay about 10 years ago and haven't seen one since. I also haven't found any references for them. Any information? How where they issued? Has anyone else seen them?

I would hazard a guess that those were made up for use in Viet Nam. Bet that's where most of them went to.

They may have been pulled from NRA sales carbines in the 50's-60's they were sold less magazines. What you have sounds like a rifle issue kit. Look in War Baby I think I saw something like that there. It is by Larry Ruth

Johnny, The kits are dated 1966. I don't think they would have been available for the NRA/DCM program. The carbine was by that time already a secondary issue weapon replaced by the M16A1. But we were sending many thousands of carbines overseas.
