Unknown stamp on 6/41 barrel. S-20 Eagle

Has anyone ever seen a stamp like this? It's on a 288k 6/41 barrel, and the rifle looks pretty much original. It's not a lend lease.

The rifle might have been used in the Phillipines during the war. So maybe it has something to do with the Phillipines?

Anyone recognize it? It looks like a upside down S-20 and I think it looks like the start of a Eagle.

Is that the OGCA rifle? It appears that the M might be stamped over something too. I believe I may have seen something in that area before but I cannot find it anywhere in my notes. Regards,

No this is a new one that just popped up out of a old guy's closest.

I swear though I've seen it before too. I just can't place where.

I just happened upon your post. I went to look at my late father's CMP rifle which is a 287XXX rifle with its original 6-41 barrel. It also looks to have this same stamp, though not as defined as yours. Probably an armory subinspector, I would guess.

            unknown stamp on early barrel

            I have rifles that were rebuilt, one has a S-A 4-41 bbl, S-A 8-41 bbl and S-A 10-41 bbl plus a 216K rifle with a
S-A 1-41 bbl, plus have seen a number of other barrels from this period and have never seen this stamp.

I do have a 168576 with a S-A 12-40 barrel that is original to the receiver, this barrel does have a odd stamp
near the date. A photo of this barrel was published in the Garand Collectors Journal not long ago, but the
            mark is still un-identified ?dscn0539.jpg

When I get a chance, I'll try photographing a picture of the mark on my rifle and will post it here.interesting that the mark seems to appear in only one month of production-- 6-41.

Yeah I would be interested to see a picture of it.

Here are a couple of photos of the stamp on my rifle. Like I said, not as distinct as yours but looks like the same to me.
If you need better photos, send me your email address and I'll send better.

Kb466, thank you sir. I was able to download the pic, and blow it up and I do see it.

I just wonder what it means? And why it seems to be to a specific date? I would think it would be some type of inspector stamping, but to the meaning I would just be guessing.

We will both have to keep a lookout for more 6/41 dated barrels and see if it occurs on them as well.
