    M1 Garand clip latch ?'s

I recently assembled a parts kit to a post war receiver. Head spaced and ready to go I notice the clip latch is hanging open a bit more than it should. When I say hanging open I mean you can see into the spring housing maybe the opening is .020 or so. Enough to see a space with proper lighting you could see the spring.
When the bolt is back the clip latch sucks in as it's supposed too.

I tried a couple different springs and pins with same results.

Any help on rectifying this issue would be much appreciated.

Sounds normal to me. I can see the spring with all of my M1's.

      jdsal:

Just looked at my 1944 rifle, and if I'm looking at the right part(s) http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufact...106.htm?page=2 Nos. 18, 19, and 20. I can't see the spring, looking down into the machined slot the latch fits in. You might have one of the later latches, or a foreign replacement part.

You have no issue to rectify . . .

Shoot it till it falls apart, then repair. No problem!

The clip latch is just that. A latch. Actually a button. Needs to 'hang' out a bit. Remember Rule Number One. If it works, don't fix it.
