    Handy stuff to have around

The last couple M1's I have purchased have had a fair amount of dried cosmoline in the rear sight peep hole and it seems that all my efforts to clean it out where for naught. Anyway I stumbled onto this stuff, it comes in many grits and diameters and is great for cleaning out the peephole for a non-fuzzy () sight picture.

Also, remove the aperature and pour boiling water over it. Boiling water will remove cosmoline in any and all nooks and crannies and evaporates fast so no rust issues.

hot water, no need for an abrasive to get rid of cosmoline.

Mineral spirits is what you use for Cosmoline. Hot water will leave a film. Cosmoline is just petroleum jelly as in grease. Any degreasant will do.

A simple pipe cleaner or toothpick and the above mentioned fluids will thoroughly clean the sight. An abrasive may mar the finish or damage the hole itself. Just my opinion.
