DCM Paperwork Question Concern NM's

A friend of mine bought a very nice NM in the LGS, but with no paperwork. He sent to CMP a Request for a serial number search. Today he got back a response. CMP confirmed his rifle was sold by the DCM in 1964. The sent him the copy of the shipping paperwork and the bill of sale. But nowhere on the paperwork does it say the rifle was a National Match. Did the paperwork just say M1 rifle ot a M1 National Match? He has compared it with all of his reference books on the NM's and it matches what the reference books say it should look like. So we still have a question in our minds "Is it or isn't it?".

Many the NM rifles sold do not say NM, but clearly were. It's a common anomaly on the sales paperwork from the DCM. It all depends how the folks wrote up their receipt.

The NSN would identify the type of rifle shipped.

I am looking at the paper work for the NM M1 I ordered in 1962 and there is no indication on the Bill of Sale that the rifle is NM. Some where on the shipping document there should be an FSN
FSN for NM =1005-726-6476 (NM)( The packing slip, which you probably will never find, indicates that the rife is NM) and has this FSN 6476

FSN for (standard issue) 1005-674-1425 On the DD 1149 for the standard rifle that I ordered in 1973 has the notation "standard"

After 1966 the NM rifle, does not appear on the DCM price list for 1967 or 1968. Only the standard rifle is listed and it has the 1425 FSN
It is possible that the FSN changed for later sales.

I asked my friend if the NSN/FSN was on any of the paperwork he received from CMP and he said no. He has copied the paperwork and is sending it to me. I should get it on Tuesday or so.

I was a little confused. I should have checked before I posted. The paper work I received from the CMP was for a 1964 shipped NM Garand. It has a photocopy of a 3x5 card, which is marked ordnance corps, rifle sales record. It gives the caliber, model, in this case M1 N/M W/ sling, serial number, depot from which it was shipped(Erie Army Depot), a voucher number, and date. What I assume is the ship to info is blacked out. At the bottom in the remarks section is has SPRINGFIELD.

The original paperwork I have for a 1966 NM Garand has a stock number of 1005-726-6476. It describes it as a; RIFLE, U.S. CAL. 30 M1 NM COND 1 W/SLING ONLY. The interesting thing about this rifle is that it was picked by the purchaser at the Rock Island Arsenal in August 1966.

His was shipped from Erie also. Will know more when I get the paperwork. At any rate he has a NM marked M-1 Garand that is verified shipped from Erie Army Depot by the DCM. In my book it is a win-win situation.
