You might check with Ted Brown as he has one of these machines.

I was contacted by peteski and I don't have a manual for the barreling machine. However, I hope I was able to give him enough information to get him on his way. I've never seen a manual for the machines.

        Greetings:

Did a fast image search for Garand Barrel Indexing machine and got these 2 links:

        https://m14forum.com/accuracy/84718-...xing-tool.html and https://m14forum.com/gunsmithing/213...at-anchor.html

It states that it's a 5th eschelon tool/fixture for the M-14 and was modified from a Garand Barrel Indexing machine, and will still work for Garands.

Online text about M14's has a reference to the barrel and receiver assembly fixture: https://dokumen.tips/documents/m14-r...-military.html

Springfield Armory (Military) or Frankfurt Arsenal, or Raritan Arsenal might have designed the fixture, and an archive search m ight come up with either a maunual or design info on the thing.

        Hope this helps.

        RHB

I checked this out just for grins and found the fixtures are not interchangeable. There is enough difference in dimensions of the receivers that the M1 receiver won't fit in the M14 fixture and the M14 receiver is too undersized to fit in the M1 fixture. There is a key that bears on the shoulder of the barrels that won't fit both and the gas cylinder spline way at the front is a different width so the front end key doesn't fit both barrels.

I find it interesting that they would not try to make them work for both rifles somehow. Anyway good info to store away. Somewhere i thought i read the m14 machine would barrel either with the rear most block removed. I can't wait to pick it up and start playing around with it. I am going to buy a surface plate. Do you recommend any particular one, thanks again for the update,Peter

Take a look on grizzly.com. They have surface plates and stands for a very reasonable price.
