    SA Inc M1D

My gunsmith came across this M1D. The receiver heel says SA Inc but the serial number is not know to me. I thought all SA Inc M1's started at 7mil?
Were the D's made by SA Inc different?

I would call Springfield Armory and ask,

HW? looks like a custom or customer requested serial number ,

not sure of the X other than a wild guess of a repeat number,

anyone can make a D out of any M1, actually easy to do (just swap barrels)

btw, that is a NM rear aperture, not likely to be on a D

      It's not a 'D' either. An M1D was a scoped sniper rifle.
"...is a NM rear aperture..." The hood at least. Kind of surprised there's no "Inc." on the heel.
I'm not seeing anything on-line about the SA Inc rifles other than a blurb on Wikipedia(that does say S/N started at 7 mil). A copy of the SA Inc manual and one of 'em on Rock Island auctions site. No arguments or anything else.
      Spelling and grammar count!

it still may be scoped, the pic does not show enough to tell,

commercial M1's by Springfield had the trademark symbol (T in a circle)

the aperture is NM marked and made so you can twist it 180 degrees to get 1/2 minute of elevation or so

not sure if the rear sight is a complete NM , not enough info or pics

just to the right of the elevation knob you can see a bit of the rubber cup. This was the only pic my gunsmith took

the windage is 1/2 moa as you can see a couple of the 'chisel' marks to be used with the spring and ball detent

My 'smith just got back to me. He called Sa Inc Friday and they looked it up and it was a special serial number for the commemorative M1D's they made and sold
