without disturbing the sight setting??

I re-barreled my M1 to 7.62NATO, with glass-bedding and recently purchased spare sight spring covers, lasered-marked: "7.62MM.

mark the sights, NM style, (paint on the knobs and the ears)

you have to take it apart to get the spring cover off, so with them painted you can put them together and turn them to the original position
