    Is it possible

To trace the serial number of a M1 rifle? To know where it went and when? I have a Garand with a serial number of February 1944. Would be neat if it was at the D-Day invasion.

I've seen rifles traced to units and then you would have to trace unit history for likelihood of deployment. If it was used on D Day. I think after that I traceability would get muddy as they were lost found picked up reissued from the dead etc.

used to be you could go to the SRS website, key in your serial, and maybe get a hit,

hit as in it showed up in some records that were found in the archives,

not a day to day following of the rifle,

that site is now pay to play, however there are some that have the printed books, and the files on a spreadsheet online,

post up the serial number , there are several here that have the data to look thru

The serial number of my Garand is: 2678139. I believe it was manufactured in February 1944 by Springfield. Is it possible this rifle made it to D-Day 1944?
        Thanks for info
