Just picked this up on a 1941 rifle....is this the correct cartouche, not faked? It looks right age wise, sorry for the lousy photos. The double struck nature of it has me concerned but I've seen other SA arms with double strikes.
Opinions on this cartouche?

Now I have to ask. What is the main cause of these "double strikes"? Could it be just a bounce of the hammer or maybe whoever was doing the stamping just wasn't happy with the way the first one looked or is this another of the "we will never know for sure" things? Just curious.Comment

Hi, new to this fine forum and wanted to add my .02 cents worth. Double strikes of "cartouches" are sometime done on restruck stocks to hide a forgery, or sometime to try and increase it's "Gunshow" value. Kind of hard to tell if a Cartouche is genuine from pictures unless there is more detail. Could look like a genuine cartouche, but say Boyds in the channel and that completely changes the game.

Question for you Stock Doc,
I had a problem with a guy in California who dogged me on Cartouches which I have been helping people for almost 2 decades. You come in with the name Stock doc giving advice trying to act on your 1st post as if you are the resident expert. I honestly hope you are not Gary R Hansen from Wilmington, CA that was banned on CMP under the name Paladin601 for this exact thing. He was always trying to say I was not the Stock Doc adn this whole thread is just way to coincidental. Rick BComment

Look at your posted picture, in that jumbled mess there really is no way of telling with the all the lines if it is real or not, good way to cover a bogus stock.
No comment on the rest, however you do seem a little paranoid. You pulled that same thing with the person who asked the original question and now me. Have a nice night.liberum aeternumComment

Trust me Gary it is real and came from this barn and not touched since WWII. And yes the name Paladin and my side name of Stock Doc with you coming into this thread new using it is not paranoid. Why do I have the feeling you will be denying cartouche validity as you did on CMP? Rick B
