    SALVO Project 22-06 M1

I posted here a few months ago when a friend acquired an unusual M1. I was able to trade into it and thought I would post a few photos.

Is it a rimfire or centerfire? Very pretty. G.

30-06 brass necked to .22, Several variants; this one is a smoothbore 'simplex" and thought to have been used to test flechette cartridges. These rounds consisted of a number of small arrow like projectiles encased in a plastic sabot giving almost no recoil. Other prototypes fired duplex and triplex 50 grain bullets @ 3500 fps!
        Best,
        Keith

I had a duplex cartridge that I gave to Billy Pyle some years ago. It was rumored that the old DCM sold some of these rifles by accident and most were returned by the owners. You should post your photos on www.garanditis.com as more knowledgeable M1 collectors often frequent that website

Canfield mentions this variation in his latest Garand book.
