    Garand short cycling input request

I have a garand that short cycles. The spent case is ejected but bolt does not go rearward sufficiently to pick up the next round. I have mic'd the op rod button and it is in spec. I have changed out the gas cylinder.

What should I do next? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Is it something that just started happening or a on going issue ? Is the gas port open ? might check the plug on the gas cylinder for leaks.

Another possibility is the recoil spring may be weak. That would prevent the follower from pushing rounds up fast enough for the bolt to pick up.

I'd do the tilt test to make sure nothing is binding then check the lock screw. It could be cracked or dirty.

If all parts are within spec, I would guess that the gas port hole in the barrel is partially blocked by over tightening of the gas cyl lock. Remove the plug and use a flashlight to observe the location of the hole.

You may also check the gas plug valve if it has one. If it doesn't seal you rifle will short cycle.
