    M1C mount - legit?

I picked up today a M81 scope which came with a mount. I identified it as being a M1C type mount, made by Griffin & Howe.

Can you guys tell me how I did in buying it? Is it a legit mount? I paid $920 for it, it also came with a canvas pouch which is "CASE, CARRYING" over "M65" marked.

    Thanks in advance!

Looks good from my location. I would say you have done very well.
I used a new production mount from Griffin and Howe on my M1C.
Now all you need to do is find the C with the proper ser# to match your mount.

yep it looks real to me. You stole it! It's probably worth close to three times what you paid or possibly more on ebay.

              So that means it's legit?

Has anyone then seen the Garand with the serial on my mount?

                100% legit.

There are guys who keep track of the C's. You might write Dave McClain. He has all the serials recorded. He would be the best one to know if there is a match to your serial.

Thanks, makes me even more happier with the mount than I already was!

Who is Dave McClain? Do you have his contact details?

Whoa there...we need the full story. You "picked up" the scope AND mount in an M65 carrying case today for $920? Where? Gunshow? A friend? Auction? The M81 is the earliest scope for the M-1C and the serial number on the mount is from an early rifle. Dave McClain should be able to verify the number for you, but in the meantime you have yourself the real deal and at a great price!! Outstanding find.

                      A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will." - Robert Service

Yes, I did. In fact it came with a base he told me which was a reproduction, and it obviously is. Therefore I didn't picture it. I bought it from a collector colleague, he visited me and brought it with him. Will contact Mr. McCain.

Yeah it was a great deal, probably 3k plus on ebay.

He didn't have the rifle serial in his list, but noted it. And I was amazed to recently see a M1C mount only on eBay -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/391094131248 . Guess I didn't do too bad then.

Yeah the M1C mounts I've had I sold for the $1700 range, and that was a few years ago. I think the M82's are in the $1500 range the last time I checked and they might very well be more expensive now, I haven't kept track.

But you got a huge score! Now if you want, pick up a nice C. You have the hardest part to find already to complete one.

Congratulations, we should all be that lucky!
