I think a standard barrel can be turned down for the base.Comment

I believe gwp is correct. The main difference between an M1D barrel and a regular M1 barrel, besides the drawing number, is that the M1D barrel is missing the groove for the rear hand guard clip.Comment

if the grove is missing, why wouldn't a standard barrel work? I have no doubt everybody here is smarter than me. I just don't quite understand (USMC, ya know)
