    Does anyone recall............

What was the weight of the rough forging of an M1 receiver, as opposed to it's final finished weight?

I used to remember but now..........Oh look! A rabbit!

Depends on who made and what step.
Springfield started with a 15.94 lb bar and , after 11 hammer blows and flashing removed , resulted in two reciever forgings weighing from 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 pounds depending on how worn the die was .
Winchester started with an 11 pound bar and , after 14 hammer blows and flashing trim , resulted in a single 7 pound four ounce forging . In '43 Winchester switched over to Springfield's method .
