The CMP has SOME of the records of older DCM sales and of rifles they (CMP) sold as NM rifles. In both cases, if they have a record they will give you a letter to that effect. In the case of a DCM sale they will also send you a copy of the DCM sales card showing the date of the original sale. They charge $ 25.00 for a search of there records.

Most of the M1 Rifle serial numbers for NM rifles that are listed in SRS books are the NM rifles that were loaned to rifle clubs. They do not have listing of the thousands of NM rifles sold mail order by DCM over a period of about 15 years nor do they have the records of those NM rifles sold to shooters at the National Matches at Camp Perry. SRS does list some NM rifles that went to the Army AMU of which some have been sold by CMP over the years. In short, SRS only has listings of a small fraction of NM rifles.
For rifles sold by DCM your best bet is CMP. They have SOME of the Ordnance Corps (DD Form 1172) cards. These are records of DCM sales that had been held at Rock Island Armory and subsequently turned over to the CMP. Keep in mind that CMP did not obtain all of these records but they do have a good number and it is well worth the $ 25.00 cost if they do have a hit.
