Most everyone want or are forced to buy the uppers with the rail for detachable handles, iron sights and scopes.

I think what you are looking for is the A1 and A2 configuration uppers. Some of the early A1's had no forward assist. This may have been for the Air Force only.

Don't know of any place that sells them new off the shelf.

NoDak Spud was a great source of 'retro' M16 / AR15 uppers and lowers. They are now part of Palmetto State Armory, but other than NDS 603 uppers, are not yet back into production. The 603 upper has the carry handle and forward assist. Out of stock at this time.

            Thanks, All.

I prefer irons for match shooting and would rather have the rear sight on a fixed handle. Guess I'll be waiting a while.

if you are looking for new, try RRA or Fulton, they still make a A2 rifle, and may sell you just the upper or a completed upper if you ask

I'll let you know what goes. Never seen a 555 exchange on a real phone number.

That was my point too--probably not real.

Some sites say the IRS uses it. I donno.
