rifle used in current USAF BMT?

What rifle is currently used in current Air Force Basic Military Training nowadays?

My son is looking to go USAF after he graduates high school. I find myself with not a bit of one AR-15 "around" to help him familiarize before hand. He is familiar with our other firearms, bolt action, pump action, our M1 Garands.
However, I have resisted the AR bug to date.

What I've seen looks like the A2.

Advice, opinions, etc. are appreciated.

The Air Force uses both M16A2 and the M4 carbine, with M4 training before service members are deploying or assigned overseas.

Purchase a flat top with a carry handle rear sight in either the M4 or AR15A2 configuration. With little or no difference in the operation of either, purchase the style that appeals to you and your son.

i know its not the "current" info but in 1985, we had M16s (not A1s) quite possibly marked AR-15...

we fired .22lr through them with adapters and white plastic magazines that only held 10 rounds...

Our son just got out of the Air Force. He was sergeant in Air Force Security (the Air Force Infantry and Police Force.) According to him the M16A2 (derisively referred to as "the Musket") is still used in basic training, after basic the issue weapon is almost always the M4 Carbine, although he said some very old M16s marked AR15 were issued to some personnel in his last deployment. Wonder if they were the same ones Ltdave used .
