    Smith Corona

Did the military ever rebuild a SC with a Remington bolt? Would they be considered "correct"? Thank you.

Go here for the history of the Smith Corona 03-A3:

Although not as widely used as the M1 Garand, the Smith-Corona Model 1903A3s saw service in every theater of the war.

It appears the only subcontracted part was the barrel.

Re: OP. SC or Rem., when rebuilding, whatever part came to hand was used. Very much doubt that rebuild facility gave any thought to keeping Rem. or SC all correct. A SC bolt would be correct. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

SC bolts would be marked with X and some were left blank. Rebuilds might have bolts marked with R or something else. My 03-A3 has BF stamped on the handle which was made by Bonnie Forge. Granted, even a well-done rebuild will have a mixture of parts, but those parts might have zero wear or even be NOS making the rifle desirable because of its excellent mechanical condition.

The Remington bolt would have been a replacement. It would not be thought of being "original". The military was not concerned with "correct" rifles, just rifles that would shoot and function.

I concur with Rick the Librarian. The military rebuilt SC rifles with whatever bolts were at hand, including Remington bolts. A Remington bolt in an SC rifle can be considered correct for a rebuild.
