    1903/A4?

Found this today at the local gun range. A guy walked in and wanted to sell. I looked it over and had a couple of friends there that dabble in this sort of thing take a gander. All figured it looked like a RIA rebuild. So I bought it. Now please tell me that I did not screw up. Will need to find rings and a scope to complete. Repro or original?

You have an M1903A4 -- the last picture in your first post shows the serial number visible from the side, which is the mark of an M1903A4 (and which is why they are so hard to counterfeit.) How much it has be rebuilt is another matter -- but that's common with all US military weapons.

        Vern,
I was pretty sure it was a M1903A4 when I saw it. It is marked M1903A3 though. The seller was asking $500 for it and since my compadres agreed with me, I gave him the funds. Now to find the parts to complete it.

All A4s are marked A3 with offset markings. The plan was to convert any not meeting the accuracy specification back into regular A3 rifles. None failed the test. Per JB

Looks minty. Hope you can find a scope and rings for it.

Will use original if I can find it. If not reproduction will have to do.

I'm sure the scope and rings will cost double what you paid for the rifle. What good luck you have!

All M1903A4s are stamped M1903A3. You have a genuine US sniper rifle.

I would not be surprised if half the posters on this forum will be looking for a scope and rings for you. Don't forget to post an ad on the WTB page in case someone out there misses this thread. I live in Baldwin. Hope you're not in the path of the storm.

                              eBay has several under "1903A4."
