    Remington handguards continued

Yesterday I posted some photos of two handguards and I was asked if I could post photos of them dismounted. Didn't think I could do it until later but a 24 hour bug sometimes has a silver lining.
I have those pictures and now I can find out if they are both Remington handguards (although only one is mounted on a Remington 03).

One additional question: Are these two handguards part of rifle production or are they replacement production?

Both are Remington handguards - note the "steps" in the barrel end.

I concur with Rick the Librarian. Both handguards are Remington M1903 handguards.

Also, the relief cuts for the front barrel clips are much wider than the metal clips.

            What are the steps?

The handguards are part of original Remington M1903 rifle production.

                Mr. Beard, Rick and Kragrifle
Many thanks for your replies. The wealth of knowledge that is always shared by you gentlemen is a definite blessing to neophytes like myself. I have found that I have outgrown the 03 books that have had in my library for many years. All excellent books however, limited in their scope so as not to overwhelm the reader.
Again, my heartfelt thanks for your time in sharing your knowledge.

After rereading my post it occurred to me that this comment was arrogant and implied that I had nothing more to learn about 1903s. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I simply mean that at this point in my continuing 1903 education I am now forced to ask about small details that weren't important earlier and are not answered in my most excellent books.

I didn't take your comment that way and feel much the same.
