It's actually really close to a lot of Marine 1903's. I wouldn't mind seeing pics of it.

You must have posted the pictures of it at one time or another. Because either Tim or I logged it in as USMC. Now these are just the Marine serials around your serial. We pulled out anything not USMC and have been adding serials to it. Also you have some really close hits that were salvaged off the USS California, which I figured you would want to see as well.

        853053 050238USMC - QUANTICO (SURVEY)
        853341 102540USMC - NORFOLK NAVY YARD

I had posted it a couple of years ago but realized I had never checked for an SRS hit. Thanks for checking for me and providing the information.

Not sure if the photos attached but here is the info I have on the rifle.

My sister-in-laws grandfather put it in a gun cabinet 40+ years ago and nobody in their family was familiar with springfields. It is in an unmarked C-stock, no cartouches and no proof "P" that they could see, I forgot to ask them to look for a letter in the magazine cut-off. The barrel is a sedgley marked USMC replacement with a 43 or 44 date on it. I don't know how the rest of the hardware is marked and they couldn't tell me if the butt plate was smooth with the hand punched dimples.

            Thanks again

Now the golden question. Was he a Markne and possibly got this from his time in the service ? Or did they live near Philadelphia or another Marine base ?
