saw this for sale if you look at the picture of the bolt it looks like it was made for a scope??

I was thinking of getting it and giving it a new stock? what else would I need to restore it?

Any comments on this gun would really help

New stock... bolt. Few small parts ... it'll be back to USGI issue! Sling looks right. Have bought similar rifles and restored them w/o any trouble. No reason this one cannot be restored! If the price is right ... go for it! Sincerely. bruce.

Thanks I think I can get it for 175$ so what is this piece that looks ground off or something??

As far as I can see, nothing has been ground off the rear receiver bridge. What you see is simply the marks from where the receiver was originally milled by Remington during production. You should not have any problems installing a standard USGI rear sight. Line it up with the witness mark. Run the screw down. It should be fine. Sincerely. bruce.

Re: Bolt. From the photo it looked to me like it had been altered. If the bolt is original USGI, you are GTG! Just install a USGI rear sight assembly... buy the necessary small parts and a stock and hand guard and you'll be all set. For a rifle in good shape, $175 is a tremendous good price. Hard to find a complete action for that price! Sincerely. bruce.

what stocks do I get?

88524475.jpg so I have the actions for 3470345 Remington 1942 (M1903A3) and 1253181 (1923) S.A. and I want to start hunting for stocks. So that's what I know

now for what I don't know

What are the correct stocks to be looking for?? what cartouches? types ? I am clueless here. Does anybody know a good source for these stocks? There is a ton on ebay but looks like you really need to know your wood !! like the circle around the P is smaller its a smith corona!! IM gonna end up buy the wrong stuff................

What is the imprint on the receiver of this action? looks like a large 2 ??

The Remington is an early 1943, not 1942; you probably looked on a website that lists ALL M1903A3s as "1942".

You'd need a M1903A3 stock with pins, not stock bolts.

I found a guy that will trade me a stock for an action I figured that's a pretty good deal so I have both 3470345 Remington 1943 (M1903A3) and 1253181 (1923) S.A

if they were in the same shape are they the same as far as value? What does pinned mean? I have only removed the action from a K98 before

If both of these barreled actions are equal in condition are they valued the same? Is one worth more than the other? if so why??
