    Springfield 1903 USMC rebuild

Some years ago I had posted photos of this SA 1031506 with a Sedgley 9-41 barrel, bolt is B1
and the WW1 stock is without any cartouche. I have taken some recent photos and have posted
    them.

I bought this rifle many years ago and as I was shooting both M1 rifles and a Winchester Model 70
target rifle, I just put this USMC away and never shot it except to test fire it.dscn2640.jpgdscn2641.jpgdscn2644.jpgdscn2647.jpgdscn2648.jpg

Here is how I found my Springfield 1903 USMC rebuild, one of my best friends was working part-time for a large sporting goods company
that sold surplus military firearms. He called me to say they received a shipment of hi number 1903 rifles in nice condition, they were going
to sell them the following week. He said that we should check them over on Saturday afternoon as it was alright with his boss and we
            could some.

The rifles (50 to 75) were on the on metal racks that had shelfs with the muzzles pointed out. I told me friend that we should look for a
star gage stamp on the muzzle. We could not find any with a star gage stamp but did find two rifles with the U.S.M.C. stamp and S in
circle with a date, we had never seen this marking and decided to buy these two rifles. Mine was the SA 1031506 and my friends rifle
was a Springfield 1,279,055 with a Sedgely 9-42 barrel in a "c" stock. My friend still has this rifle and lives in Fla, he never shot it.

Very nice rifle. Do you recall if your friend’s rifle looked similar to yours in terms of finish color?

Islandhopper, I do not recall the finish color, but do not think it was a dark color. We could never find out anything on
SA 1,279,055 the Sedgely 9-42 dated barrel had the vise marks and bolt was NS marked, butt plate issue checkering

There is a chance it was a former Marine team rifle, that was later rebuilt into a service rifle. The Marines didn't acquire a lot of 1903's between the wars, other than the ones they swapped prior to this with RIA.

The only other way that serial could have came into the Marines was by the huge amount of 1903's the Navy gave them in 1942.

But I sort of have a feeling it very well might have been a Marine team rifle at one time.

                    Bob,

Your rifle is in good company. You may note I have one very near yours. I hope you are doing well, Bob
