I have recently acquired an early, 1907 manufactured 1903. Great looking gun, appears original with the exception of a small checkered butt plate and at some point the stock was lightly sanded and finished with tung oil. The cartouches are still visible including the P under the wrist, the wood is in great shape, no repairs or cracks that I can see. The serial number is 314420 and the barrel is marked SA 06/07 with the flaming ordnance bomb. The bore is shiny with clear lands and grooves. Based on the attached pics can you help me to authenticate it? Can it be located in the SRS? Legitimate story is that I just acquired it from an 85 year old gentleman who received it from his uncle 70 years ago. He said that uncle had been in WWI but doesn't believe that it was his military rifle. The finish doesn't impress me that it went through the war.
