    Bolt ID pics

Here are a couple pics of a bolt that is on my '03. On another site, Mr Beard said it appeared to be an early bolt but has some confusing markings. I couldn't upload pics to that site so am trying here. I bought the rifle in the early '80s and returned it to full military configuration. Serial #1374814, 7-33 barrel date.[/ATTACH]P1050675.jpg

Thanks for posting your pictures here. Your bolt was made at Springfield Armory and the steel lot code is "s", which dates from 1904 to 1912. The "6" is a normal subinspection mark. The "US" marking is unusual and is not a steel lot code. One can only speculate the meaning (property stamp, perhaps?) and who put it there.

Thanks again for the pictures! And stay safe!

Thank you again. Is there any problem with continued use of this bolt? Better ones? I do have a remington bolt that came in a parts kit I bought years ago.

If you intend to do much shooting, you would be wiser to use the Remington bolt. It will provide you a little extra margin of safety in more ways than one.
