03A3 Upper Band Thread Size

I need to chase the threads on an 03A3 upper band. Is it correct that the thread size is 6-40?

On this band, I can screw a new band screw in from the right side of the hole, but not through the left side of the hole (as would need to be done to secure it to the stock).

I read Chuck's prior post. (Thank's for referencing that!) I'm wondering if these bands were drilled and tapped and then heat treated and the heat treating is what has caused the difference between the 6-40 tapped hole and the resulting thread size?

A3 bands wernt heat treated...likely just do to worn taps, or tooling.

Biggest piece of crap on the 03-A3 was that tiny screw. Must have been a good reason to go that small, but I sure don't see it.

one thing iv done, is drill and tap the other side so that a 1903 screw can be used...works great.
