    1903 Springfield safety problem

    hi guys , require assistance , the safety on my cmp
    1903 Springfield will not engage , please please help me
    trouble shoot and fix the problem .

    Pictures??? Did you get it from CMP; if so contact them.

    Did you take the bolt apart? Did it just stop working, or did you get it that way?

        Can you pull the cocking piece back slightly and make it engage? Also, it will not engage if not cocked.

          hi , yes , if I pull the cocking piece back it will engage,
          If when the safe is on & I turn it off , the cocking piece it snaps
          forward.

            Sounds like the lead ins are off just a tad. In the past I have relieved these just a bit with a Dremel tool to allow the safety to engage, but not recommended for a first timer.

              These safeties are always a bit problematic especially on the 22 cal rifles. Sometimes switching out parts of the sleeve/safety will fix the problem.

                The safety must engage in front of the trigger, with your configuration pulling the trigger with the safety engaged fires the rifle when the safety is released.

                  Quite common, the term is 'tolerance stacking". Either the safety or bolt sleeve is worn to not work together.. Probably the bolt sleeve.
