        Kidding aside, I wish the picture showed the cocking mechanism better. The thing looks kind of silly, but if you gave me a choice of that device, or sticking my head up over the top of the trench.......I'm taking the contraption every time.

          Believe it or not, Army Ordnance ordered production of the contraption in mid-1918. But the war ended before any deliveries could be made. I believe I would prefer a worm hole between sand bags over that contraption. I perceive that accuracy would suffer badly.

            I would think firing that would throw the shooter on his back looks just a tad top heavy.

                I think they rested it on top of the trench and then fired. I remember a auction many years ago and it seemed it sold for big bucks.
