E.H.D. stamped stock time frame?

So when did Dewey stamp '03 stocks? Research is conflicting. Did he come over from Colt to SA, or were both done at the same time. Any "E.H.D." stocks prior to 1918?

I'm not sure about WWI, but in WWII the weapons were stamped with the "district" inspection officers initials. The officer himself might not have done the actual stamping. Springfield and Hartford aren't far apart and probably in the same district, but as stated I'm not sure if that was the way they did it in 1918 or not.

EHD was a WWI inspector, but I don't have the speciic time frame he was present at Springfield.

I've seen one reference that states up until 1917. But rifles noted to have that stamp are about 1918-1920, Mark I time frame. Wondering if any original one-bolt stocks ever had the E.H.D. stamp?

I just noticed that the RIA re-build I posted about has a faint EHD marking. Hadn't noticed it before.

That's cool! So, your RIA rifle was rebuilt at RIA with a SA stock.

Nice Frank Ward rebuild stamp, by the way. NOT seen often!
